Overview of SketchUp

What's New in Google SketchUp 7?

Fast and reliable

SketchUp is now even more intuitive, added tools for power users, and made it easier to find and share models with the world.

SketchUp is easier to use.

With edges that automatically break other edges where they cross, objects that are smart enough to know how they should behave when you interact with them, and drawing hints that are clearer and more consistent, Google SketchUp 7 is the most intuitive SketchUp ever.

It's all about collaboration and sharing.

In SketchUp 7, you can search for models in the Google 3D Warehouse right from the Component browser, take credit for what you contribute, keep track of your collaborators, and generally bask in the glow of knowing you're part of the worldwide 3D community.

PRO There's even more in SketchUp Pro.

LayOut is officially out of beta and ready to go. LayOut 2 is faster, more reliable and includes vector rendering, improved text handling and more. SketchUp Pro power users can also create Dynamic Components: models that animate, scale and replicate intelligently.

Google SketchUp Pro 7 is software that you can use to create, share and present 3D models. The Pro version of SketchUp provides extra functionality for people who need to export their work into CAD, rendering and other professional software applications. SketchUp Pro 7 also includes LayOut, a completely new program that lets you create complete presentations—paper and digital—from your SketchUp models.

Nobody starts with construction drawings. Design is a process of iteration and discovery: trying something, testing it, then trying something else. SketchUp is a tool for solving 3D problems quickly.

Work accurately. Need to make a wall nine feet high? With SketchUp Pro, you can be as accurate as you're ready to be.

You don't get paid for learning software. An intuitive user interface and extensive learning resources make SketchUp Pro much easier to learn than other 3D modelling software you may have tried—most people get up and running in a couple of hours.

Create Custom Sketchy Edge Styles. You can use Style Builder (beta) to create custom sketchy-edge Styles that you can use in SketchUp. Render your models more approachable by making them look hand-drawn.

Let there be LayOut. Only SketchUp Pro includes LayOut, which we designed specifically for people who need to create 2D presentations from their 3D ideas. With LayOut, you can add title blocks, callouts, photographs and logos to your pages. When you're ready, LayOut lets you print high-resolution design packets and boards, export to PDF, and even give full-screen digital presentations.

Keep using your existing tools. AutoCAD user? SketchUp Pro imports and exports both DXF and DWG. It also exports 3DS, OBJ, XSI, FBX, (take a breath), EPS, PDF, VRML, EPX, DAE and KMZ. No matter what subset of the alphabet your favourite software prefers, chances are you can use it with SketchUp Pro 7.

Make it sketchy. SketchUp's hand-drawn rendering styles let you show just the right amount of detail.

Figure things out. Use SketchUp Pro to test your design. Carry out shadow studies, calculate areas, and walk around your model—all without leaving SketchUp.

Even pros need support. Google SketchUp Pro 7 users have access to email technical support, so help is never far away.

Overview:

SketchUp is the award-winning program that delivers a completely new way to design in 3D.

What is SketchUp?

SketchUp is a deceptively simple, amazingly powerful tool for creating,
viewing, and modifying 3D ideas quickly and easily. SketchUp was developed to combine the elegance and spontaneity of pencil sketching with the speed and flexibility of today's digital media.

Developed for the conceptual stages of design, this powerful yet easy-to-learn software allows for quick and easy 3D form creation, the result is an interface that supports a dynamic, creative exploration of 3D form, material and light.

SketchUp combines a compact yet robust tool-set with an intelligent guidance system that streamlines the 3D drawing process.

3D for Everyone!

Design software has been around for decades and is clearly here to stay. But we think something has been missing—the freedom, flexibility and fun that should go hand-in-hand with the design process. It's our view that while traditional CAD software is necessary for developing detailed drawings, it's simply too complex for most conceptual design work.

SketchUp bridges the divide between design utility and fun. As designers ourselves, we created SketchUp as much to satisfy our own wishes as those of our users.

We know you've heard it all before: what company doesn't claim that its software is 'a piece of cake to use' or 'the best around?' We're guilty of saying this too. But you don't have to take our word for it—you can try it yourself. Just
download a free trial version of SketchUp Pro 7, fire it up and give it a spin. Most people say they're off and running in a few hours.

Who uses SketchUp?

Fans of SketchUp include everyone from industry giants to industry-giants-in-the-making. As the 'Swiss army knife' of design software, we're neutral with respect to file formats and work hard to get along with everybody. In keeping with this, Google have designed SketchUp to be compatible with most other modelling, image editing, and illustration applications that designers use. From architects to movie and set designers, from game developers to graphic artists,  users can rely on SketchUp to help make their design ideas come to life.

Don't wait another minute to experience SketchUp Pro 7. Download the free trial version of SketchUp Pro 7 and get for 8 full working hours of use. That's more than enough time to fall in love with its remarkably easy interface and unbelievably powerful functionality.
